Marrakech
The Red City — souks, riads, rooftops and desert on the doorstep
Marrakech is the easiest place to start a Moroccan holiday. Inside the ochre walls you get labyrinthine souks, palaces, hammams and hundreds of courtyard riads; twenty minutes out of town the Agafay stone desert, the Palmeraie and the High Atlas foothills open up. It is our most-booked base, with direct flights from most of Europe and a two-hour transfer radius that covers quad biking, balloon rides, waterfalls and Berber villages.
Fes
The spiritual and craft capital — 1,200 years of medina
Fes el-Bali is the world's largest car-free urban area and the best place in Morocco to understand its craft traditions: tanneries, brass beaters, weavers, zellige cutters and the oldest continuously operating university on earth. It rewards slow, guided exploration far more than a checklist visit.
Chefchaouen
The blue city in the Rif — slow days, big views
Chefchaouen is small, walkable and unapologetically photogenic: indigo-washed staircases, mountain air and a main square built for long lunches. Most visitors come on a day trip from Tangier or Fes, but an overnight is what makes it memorable — the blue lanes are empty at dawn.
Sahara Desert
Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga — dunes, camps and silence
Morocco's great dune seas sit at Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) and M'Hamid (Erg Chigaga). Both deliver camel trains at sunset, star-filled skies and luxury tented camps with real beds and hot showers — Erg Chebbi is easier to reach, Erg Chigaga is wilder and quieter. Getting there is part of the trip: the Draa Valley, Ait Benhaddou and the Dades gorges are all on the route.
Essaouira
Windswept ramparts, blue boats and the freshest seafood in Morocco
Essaouira is Marrakech's release valve: a walled Atlantic port with a laid-back medina, art galleries, gnawa music and a beach built for kitesurfing. Three hours from Marrakech by road, it works as a long day trip but deserves two or three nights.
Agadir
Ten kilometres of beach, marina life and year-round sun
Rebuilt after 1960, Agadir is modern, spacious and resort-shaped — the easiest place in Morocco for a straightforward beach holiday. Use it as a base for surf at Taghazout, Paradise Valley, Souss-Massa National Park and the Anti-Atlas.
Casablanca
Morocco's business capital — art deco, ocean and the Hassan II Mosque
Casablanca is where most long-haul flights land and where our office sits. It is a working city rather than a postcard one, but the Hassan II Mosque is unmissable, the art deco downtown is genuinely special, and the Corniche has the best contemporary dining in the country.
Tangier
Where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic — kasbah, cafés and coast
Tangier has shaken off its faded reputation and become one of Morocco's most likeable cities: a compact whitewashed kasbah above the strait, a rebuilt corniche and marina, and easy access to Cap Spartel, the Caves of Hercules and Chefchaouen.
